Review: Signal Moon by Kate Quinn

Signal Moon is a cute, short story in the same vein as the movie Frequency or, I suppose, the novel The Time Traveler’s Wife (sort of) that delivers an enjoyable story over the course of a little under 1 1/2 hours.

Lily and Matt are both radio operators in the military — the only difference is she is in England in 1943 and he is in America in 2023. Somehow, she has picked up his radio transmission from the future and listens to his death during a surprise attack. To prevent this from playing out, she devises a plan to keep him alive and hopefully prevent his war from starting. In the end, both of them end up helping each other.

Quinn does a great job with the little space given with the short story of developing the characters’ personalities and emotions. The story itself doesn’t have to cover a lot of ground so we are able to sit with the characters more. This gives the story a good pace, but I was hoping it would feel a bit more tense considering the material.

Overall, a very good read and I already know you have the time to read it.
