A short-line enjambment is a poetic technique in which a brief, punchy line of verse ends without punctuation, forcing the sentence or thought to “step over” or run directly into the next line. Instead of pausing at the short line break, the reader’s eye and voice rush forward, creating sudden speed, tension, or surprise.
