We spoke down at the coffee shop
When I left you hanging.
That feeling gripped my gut,
“She will never be into you.”
You gazed at me with brilliant eyes,
Silently screaming to
Take the leap, but I choked.
No words came. And I let you stare.
That demon gripped me down inside
Grabbed hold and weighed me down
Squeezed the air from my lungs
Making sure we drown in sorrow
I’ve stared at those many faces
Frequently through the years,
Born from my past loves lost.
Oh, when will I set myself free?
