LXXXII. Yellow Raincoat

A day unlike any other—
A day after the vote.
We made our voices heard,
Through all the campaign bloat.
The ballot box choices:
Sycophant or cutthroat.
Two sides of the same coin,
None shown as antidote.
Human issues at stake,
Politicians emote.
Demons detached from God,
Concern for their banknote.
If you stray from the norm,
They label you turncoat.
The two-party system,
A funny anecdote.
But hope for the future,
Proves that humans are rote.
As soon as the ads die,
All of us start to dote:
What was and what will be.
Soon, the people will gloat.
Cognizant of choices made,
A shipwreck or lifeboat?
Surely, we all agree,
None will become the goat.
Promises are broken,
We need a motorboat
To navigate these lies,
Or hide behind a moat.
Just like little Georgie,
We try to stay afloat,
But with the way things are,
Bring your yellow raincoat.
