I close my eyes at night
And watch you in my rearview mirror
Taillights washing you in scarlet
As you fade into the darkness
And I fade from the light
But I force myself to power through
Moving forward apathetically
Knowing even after this unbearable night
A new day will dawn
Without you
But a hollow aching festers in my chest
A torment growing larger as I push on
In that moment, I surrender and look back
Only to see my reflection cradling my heart
Cleaved from my breast
How did I get here?
Memories claw their way up
Faster than I can cast them out
Despair washing over me
And into the darkness I disappear
I wrestle with my consciousness
What once brought me joy
Now brings me agony
No answers, I continue plodding
Across the infinite abyss
Fighting this incessant yearning
Weathering the black hole
And enduring all that I suffer
I force myself to remember
For better or worse, the world keeps on turning
