XXIX. Life is an Adventure

I walked guardedly from the golden gates
The castle casting shafts of shadow
Chancing a search for my enchanted chalice
Somewhere in the wilderness it waits
The only trinket that will hand me happiness
In my way, three horrible dragons of lore
Their bellies bellow with their jaws ajar
My only recourse is to fight or flee
Fleet of foot or sword in stomach
Adventuring made easier with timely tools
A gadget to help bridge the gap
Another obtains objects a good ways away
All while passing by that pilfering bat
Maybe if I can move through this maze
I’ll be cast in more than another Camelot castle
    Dare dream
Another level to traverse
At the whim of another scheme
While it feels like a witch’s curse
They present it with great esteem

Written for National Video Game Day. I’ll see if you can figure out the video game. Inspired by the 14-line verses in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, which used a pentameter rhythm followed by the bob and wheel. I’m using allegory and alliteration in a free-verse meter, followed by the bob and wheel.
