XXVIII. Twin Shadows

The shadows cast by your loss,
Fall across the entire world,
Reminding us of those dark days,
And the strength that followed.

It was in your death
That you returned to dust
And the dust of the departed
Was cast upon us
Now baptized in sorrow

A country saddled with grief
Ignited with a burning rage
Found themselves united
Behind 2,753 resolute souls
Who chose not to wallow

You became our new foundation
Your sacrifice made us one
We promise never to forget
And never take for granted tomorrow
